Thinking Thursday

[Luk 2:51-52 KJV]

51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Jesus was voluntarily submissive to God, His Father and to His earthly parents that God had chosen.  In the prior lesson, we see He had a maturity beyond others His age in understanding, yet humbled himself to honor his earthly parents because that honored God at this time.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

He grew in every area and in relationships.  I think that is an example to follow.

Wisdom Wednesday

[Ecc 9:9 KJV]
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that [is] thy portion in [this] life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

Two of God's blessings in this earthly life are love and work.

[Ecc 9:10 KJV]
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Our work here on earth trains us for eternity in heaven but does not profit us if we go to hell.

[Ecc 9:11 KJV]
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race [is] not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Each of our races is individual and unique as God wills for our lives.

[Ecc 9:12 KJV]
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so [are] the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

As we have proof at this crazy time.😐

Timely Tuesday

in the "I'm not sure about this" category

in the "I hardly think so" category

in the "wow, you try to do something nice" category

What I'm praying for this week:  that people everywhere try and build others up instead of tearing them down.  We can show respect to others even if we do not believe everything that they believe.

Monday Meditation

[Luk 21:25-28 ESV] 25 "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves,

26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

I want this redemption.  I need this redemption.  I am impatient for this redemption.

Friday Focus

It's been a couple of weeks since I've updated this day of the blog.  So what have I been up to?  Well, I've:

  • been watching bible documentaries on Amazon prime and challenging myself if I can discern where they are wrong
  • planned a special Easter dinner for my mother in law...even busting out the china so it would feel special
  • catching up on my chronological reading plan...I am now in Joshua!
  • being on call for tax questions
  • being a pug companion...we do a lot of napping
  • watching the news just a few minutes a day...anything more and I start having negative thoughts
  • been working 1-2 days per week
What I'm concerned about right now:  Not being able to see my church family.  When you are the only believer in your house, it is quite lonely...no one to discuss the Scriptures with...I miss it!

Thinking Thursday

[Luk 2:39 KJV]
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

the couple had traveled to Bethlehem for a census, had a baby in a stable, fled from a rampage of a jealous king, went to Egypt and returned to their home village when they heard it was safe again.  Being the parents of God's only begotten isn't easy.

[Luk 2:40 KJV]
And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Jesus wasn't like the other children...he was special.

[Luk 2:41 KJV]
Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

One of 3 required feasts that men had to go to the temple for in Jerusalem.

[Luk 2:42 KJV]
And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

The family would have traveled with others.

[Luk 2:43 KJV]
And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not [of it].

Time to head back to Nazareth but mom and dad are going to get a lesson.

[Luk 2:44 KJV]
But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among [their] kinsfolk and acquaintance.

They realize He is not there.

[Luk 2:45 KJV]
And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

So back to Jerusalem they go.

[Luk 2:46 KJV]
And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

He was where learning is taking place.

[Luk 2:47 KJV]
And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

For 12 years old, he was quite mature in his thinking.

[Luk 2:48 KJV]
And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

Quite a subdued motherly correction considering the circumstances.

[Luk 2:49 KJV]
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

He reminds them of who he truly is.

[Luk 2:50 KJV]
And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

They knew he was God's son but not what that meant practically while he was still a child.
