[Rom 14:17-19 ESV] 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
This is a portion of the text from my pastor's sermon yesterday. Some of us Christians make it tough on other Christians. We kill their joy by saying if you are a real Christian, you would do this . . . or you wouldn't do that . . . What we need to focus on is:
R I G H T E O U S N E S S
P E A C E
J O Y
and trust the Holy Spirit to guide their conscience on what these things look like in their life. This is a tough one for me, I love to be bossy. At the same time, I don't want you telling me how to behave unless I am blatantly bringing reproach on the name of Christ. Then, by all means, hit me up the side of the head with your Bible and say, "straighten up and fly right." I would consider that upbuilding!
