Word Study Wednesday

Continuing our study on bread.  Like anything, bread can be used for good or bad purposes.  In Proverbs, we see some of the bad purposes:

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. [Pro 4:17 ESV]

26 for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life. [Pro 6:26 ESV]

17 "Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant." [Pro 9:17 ESV]

17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel. [Pro 20:17 ESV]

6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies, [Pro 23:6 ESV]

21 To show partiality is not good, but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong. [Pro 28:21 ESV]

Bread that comes by wickedness, by taking advantage, by sin, by deceit, by stinginess or by wrong doing isn't right.  Better to suffer hunger than to gain bread by any of these methods.
