Thinking Thursday

[Rev 17:14-18 ESV] 14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful."

They=the beast and the 10 kings.  But God (Jesus) conquers them!  The outcome of the battle has already been decreed.  Jesus' companions are 3 things:  called, chosen and faithful.

15 And the angel said to me, "The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages.

John is told some meanings of what he has been shown.  Waters (that the great prostitute from verse 1 is seated on) = peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.

16 And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire,

Where once they partnered with her to gain power, they now turn on her and destroy her.

17 for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.

The ten horns, like zombies, hand over their power to the beast.  They are used by God to fulfill His words.

18 And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth."

As discussed in last week's Thinking Thursday, the harlot in Scripture is usually a false religion that worships idols instead of the one true God.  This false religion has dominion (or exerts influence) over the kings of the earth.  Which great city?  Here, wikipedia has a list for you!  Take your pick!
