Friday Focus

This week was an encouraging week.  I settled on my "Lent" exercise in self discipline.  This is something I've done for a number of years.  I look at which spiritual discipline I'm struggling with and spend a concentrated six weeks working on it with the Lord's help.  This year it is self-control and patience.  I will pump up my self-control by concentrating on not procrastinating by implementing every day tasks that keep me caught up...a planned schedule of sorts.  Shocker, I've lived my adult life by the seat of my pants most days.  On the procrastinating part:  I waste a lot of time watching news and shows and movies I've seen before or spending tons of time on the computer and if I don't feel like doing my household chores, I just don't and I give into laziness and thinking I deserve a break.  So for the next six weeks, its chores first and then if I have the time, I can watch tv or get on social media.  I have a desire this year to see how the other half lives.... in non-chaos.  I'm also experimenting once again with expanding my food choices by going with a plant based diet (or as others would call it:  veganism)  Now, I've lived 50+ years as a die-hard carnivore so this is somewhat of a sacrifice for me:  no meat, no butter, no cheese and it's really going to be hard on my husband who is not a big veggie eater (he's a veggie drinker!)  I did a practice week this week and it really wasn't too big of a deal.  I made some minor mistakes in ordering at restaurants.  I was also going to do fasting but I found I needed to eat 3xs a day doing the plant based because with eating way less fat, you get way hungrier!

Study progress:
  • had bible study on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  1 Corinthians 4-5 and Genesis 11-15.  Learned new things and for that I'm grateful.
  • continuing end times study thru our Sunday sermons
  • continuing chronologically in Exodus.  Got more days in this week, than I did last week, so progress was made.
What I'm concerned about this week:  as always "pro-life" issues.  There was a pro-life event that featured Tim Tebow that you can read about here.  The election craziness had an interesting turn of events this week, read about it here.  And a very interesting event in the middle east here.  And finally, Iran is doing it again.

I would love to hear about your faith journey this week.
