A much too prevalent behavior...

is that of bearing false witness.  Exodus 20:16 says:

[Exo 20:16 KJV] 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

It is running rampant.  In the news, on television and on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter (the only two I'm on).  For goodness sakes, why?  Why do we tolerate such behavior?

It is a wonder that anyone would want to be a politician or public servant or any other type of famous person because anyone can hide behind a computer screen and spew outright lies about such people.

But is not only famous people who are affected, people living ordinary, simple  lives are affected as well.  We seem to fall into one of two categories; we are false witness bearers or we are the victims of false witness bearing.

We need to repent and cast this sin far from us.  God's Word says:

[Exo 23:1 ESV] 1 "You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.

[Pro 19:9 ESV] 9 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish.

A final thought, Jesus himself suffered the testimony of false witnesses against Him.

So let us remember the golden rule, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you."  If you wouldn't like having falsehoods about yourself passed around, then please don't do so about others, even if it is a share or retweet that seems real.  If you don't know it for a fact personally, then refraining is the safest course.
