Inspiring Example

of Anna.  We meet her soon after the birth of Christ:

[Luk 2:36-38 ESV] 36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

  • she's called a prophetess which means an inspired woman
  • she's from the tribe of Asher
  • she was married 7 years
  • at the time of the events of the verses above she is 84 years old
  • she spent her time at the temple worshiping, fasting and praying
  • was thankful that the "redemption of Jerusalem" was here and began telling others of Him
She had purpose.  She spent her widowed years serving God at the temple and had probably seen countless parents dedicating their first born sons.  As a prophetess, she knew that the young couple of Joseph and Mary and their son were different.  That this baby was the long awaited Messiah of the Jewish nation.

After receiving the distinct blessing of seeing the Savior, she didn't waste any time in telling others about Him.  I don't know about you but I look forward to meeting her in heaven.
