Her grief over her brother's death, greatly touched the Lord:
[Jhn 11:32-33 ESV] 32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled.
She performed a great act of love and devotion to her Lord:
[Jhn 12:3 ESV] 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
When Judas Iscariot was critical of her for this wastefulness, Jesus defended her.
Mark's account provides more detail:
[Mar 14:6, 8-9 ESV] 6 But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. ... 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."
Mary was different from her sister, she was focused in her devotion to Christ that went beyond a societal role of women:
[Luk 10:39, 42 ESV] 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. ... 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."
Let us choose the good portion over busyness with chores.
