The state of being holy; purity or integrity of moral character; freedom from sin; sanctity. Applied to the Supreme Being, holiness denotes perfect purity or integrity of moral character, one of his essential attributes.
I like that freedom from sin part. I found the most beautiful verse in 1st Chronicles when I did a word search on holiness. It says:
[1Ch 16:29 KJV] 29 Give unto the LORD the glory [due] unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
In the Hebrew, this is how it is defined: קֹדֶשׁ qôdesh, ko'-desh; from H6942; a sacred place or thing; rarely abstract, sanctity:—consecrated (thing), dedicated (thing), hallowed (thing), holiness, (×most) holy (× day, portion, thing), saint, sanctuary.
In the New Testament, these verses from Luke give us another idea:
[Luk 1:74-75 KJV] 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
In the Greek, this is how it is defined: ὁσιότης hosiótēs, hos-ee-ot'-ace; from G3741; piety:—holiness... piety towards God, fidelity in observing the obligations of piety, holiness
piety, fidelity, obligation. Join me as we learn what holiness means in modern day America in the 21st century. I suspect it means what it has meant over the course of time, no matter the circumstances.
