Monday Meditation

[Jas 4:5 ESV] Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, "He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us"?

God wants the best for each of us.  Not necessarily what will make us happy from our limited human view but what will submit us to His will and make us holy,  fit for His service.

[Jas 4:6 ESV] But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Are you proud?  I am regrettably so at times.  I want His grace, don't you?  Then we must pursue humbleness and make it part of our character.

[Jas 4:7 ESV] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.[Jas 4:8 ESV] Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Five action verbs in these two verses:  Submit, resist, draw near, cleanse and purify.  All take deliberate thought and purpose to achieve.  The results of doing so are amazing:  The devil will flee, God will draw near, we will be clean and we will achieve clarity of the mind.

Sounds great to me!
