Word Study Wednesday

The answer to last week's riddle is the word:

p r o p i t i a t i o n

[Rom 3:25 KJV] Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

[1Jo 2:2 KJV] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.

[1Jo 4:10 KJV] Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

Webster's 1828 defines propitiation as:

1. The act of appeasing wrath and conciliating the favor of an offended person; the act of making propitious.
2. In theology, the atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God to assuage his wrath and render him propitious to sinners. Christ is the propitiation for the sins of men. Rom.3. 1 John 2.

Only Jesus could appease the Father's wrath for our sin.  I am so grateful for His worthiness.
