[Rom 8:5-7 ESV] 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Do you ever say, "I'm going to do what I want to do!" I try not to say this anymore because my life doesn't belong to me. He bought me, so my life is no longer my own. I try and do what He would have me do and say and be. This is not always easy but I like to think that I am getting better at it as He gives me opportunity.
6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Is my mind set on worldly things like trendy clothes, the perfectly decorated house, the manicured lawn, fun and entertainment, etc.? If so, my life is probably not very fulfilling and likely empty of meaning. But to ponder Christ and the Father and their ways and their precepts and their Holy Word...that is what brings eternal life and peace.
7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.
The last thing I would ever want to be is hostile to God or His people. But if I am preoccupied with worldly things, then that is what I am inadvertently being, hostile towards Him; or in other words: His enemy!
