Thinking Thursday

[Rev 8:1-6 ESV] 1 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

There is nothing that snaps you to attention like silence.  More than a few seconds of it and I am a little unnerved but a whole 30 minutes of silence...wowza!

2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.

After the 30 minute interval of silence 7 angels with 7 trumpets are seen by John.  Trumpet calls usually call people to attention because something is about to happen.

3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne,

Prayers and incense offered on the altar before the throne of God.  Makes me want to take a little more care with my prayers...

4 and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.

as they are going to be in front of God combined with all the other saints prayers.

5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The prayers are then going to the earth in an attention grabbing fashion:  thunder, rumblings, lightning and an earthquake.

6 Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

Prepare yourself people, the trumpets are about to sound...

Who says scripture reading is boring?  Certainly not me!
