[Rev 9:7-12 ESV] 7 In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, 8 their hair like women's hair, and their teeth like lions' teeth; 9 they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. 10 They have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people for five months is in their tails. 11 They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon. 12 The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come.
More detail is provided on what we looked at last week. If you are entertained by gruesome images, google "Revelation 9" and click on images and you will see tons of artist renditions of what these creatures look like.
Like horses with crowns, women's hair and lions' teeth. They will be fascinating creatures to look at. With breastplates, they will indestructible. The sound of their wings will be intimidating. Just watch a clip of the chariot race of Ben Hur and you'll get an idea of the noise. They are granted a period of five months to torment people, as this is what God permits. Even during this woe, God is still sovereign.
These creatures have a king and his name in both the Hebrew and Greek means "destroyer." This first woe that lasts five months has now concluded but two more woes are on the way.
