Timely Tuesday

Saw this story last week.  I have to say that my opinion is the polar opposite.  To me, the Bible is the best book I have ever read.  Everytime I read it, I learn something new.  New application, new history, new inspirational thought.  There are many reasons I can think of why pseudo intellectuals reject this book:

  1. they are unable to see the beauty and redemptive qualities of the Scriptures.
  2. they think the book was written so long ago, that none of it applies in these modern times despite the fact that human nature is as it has always been.
  3. they would rather ignore the guidance of the Scriptures on how to live life, preferring instead to do what they want.
  4. they do not want anything they do to be labeled as sin.
  5. they do not want to think about the fact that one day they will stand before God to be judged, as we all will, and held to account for what they have done with their lives.  Maybe they are hoping to plead ignorance, as they never read the Bible, how can they be responsible for knowing what is in it.
What are your thoughts?  Why do people shy away from reading the Bible?
