It seems recently, that a week doesn't go by without another church leader falling away, giving up, resigning or turning their backs on God's truth. I find this sad, discouraging and challenging. I mean I'm just a middle aged woman in flyover country with absolutely zero influence over anyone who clings to the cross and the redemptive work of Christ on my behalf as my greatest treasure. I don't understand people who have a hold of the truth and then let it go, call it into question and create doubt in the minds of their followers.
Here is such a story.
Now I've never read this guy's books or listened to his sermons and I don't intend to because I fail to see that using God's Word as a punchline brings glory to Him who I love. We just need to be obedient to God's Word, preach the gospel simply and plainly and God will draw His children to Himself. We don't need new ways to present it, laser light shows to highlight it, we just need to live it and speak it authentically. We are not a freak show, subversive capitalists or a giant charade. We are His people living in a world that has been corrupted waiting for Jesus' return to set things in order.
