[Gal 1:1-5 ESV] 1 Paul, an apostle--not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead--
This wasn't a job Paul sought. He didn't grow up hoping he would become an apostle to Jesus. He was pursuing religious studies and sought to serve God but it was a man made image of God who had a lot of rules and Paul wanted to enforce those rules. But then he met the risen Savior who set him on a different path and thank goodness he did. Paul acknowledges he was one of the "walking dead" meaning despite his religious pursuits, he was physically alive but spiritually dead.
2 and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:
God gave him a new family and a new purpose: to witness to the Gentiles and establish churches throughout the known world.
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
Paul's familiar greeting. Grace and peace are gifts from God if you accept and love His Son.
4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
Jesus purchased us back from death so we can be in the world but not of the world. Our eternal destination is now with the Father and not as it was before: separation from the Father.
5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Everyone wonders what their purpose in life is. Well, this is one that is common to all mankind: to bring God glory in all that we do.
