Thinking Thursday

[Gal 3:1-6 ESV] 1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.

Paul is alarmed by how the Galatians are thinking and he loves them enough to state the facts.

2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?

He knows that they know that it is by faith.

3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

The Galatians have fallen into a trap that is easy to fall into.  God wants us to live by the Spirit and not by works.

4 Did you suffer so many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain?

This is one of those classic Paul thinking questions that makes you stop and say "wait, what am I doing?"

5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith--

Again, Paul knows that they know the truth.

6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness"?

Don't we all want our faith to be counted to us as righteousness?
