Monday Meditation

Coming at the end of September is the first of the Lord's fall feasts.  I thought it would be good to take a look at what we could learn.

[Lev 23:23-25 KJV] 23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first [day] of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

The 7th month of the Jewish calendar is Tishri.  This is a commandment, " Shall ye have..."  Sabbath is translated as a special holiday.  A blowing of trumpets is performed on this day which is why it is also known as the "Feast of Trumpets."  There are 3 different trumpet (also known as shofar) sounds:

  1. Tekiah - a single long blast
  2. Shevarim - 3 short blasts
  3. Teruah - 9 short blasts in quick succession
This holiday is also known as the "Jewish New Year",  "Time of Trouble", "Opening of the Books","Day of the Awakening Blast", "Coronation of the Messiah", and "Hidden Day".

The word convocation can be translated as dress rehearsal.  Just as Christ fulfilled the spring feasts with His first coming, He will fulfill the fall feasts with His second coming.

25 Ye shall do no servile work [therein]: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

See Numbers 29:1-6 for a description of the offering.

If you are interested in learning more about the Lord's feasts, I would recommend the following book:
