Thinking Thursday

I decided it is time to study a gospel.  I have chosen Luke.  So let us begin:

[Luk 1:1-4 KJV] 1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

There are several gospel accounts.  Four to be exact.  Slightly different but all cohesive in telling the ministry of Jesus.

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

Of the four gospels, two were written by disciples of Christ (Matthew & John).  The other two were written by associates of the disciples (Mark & Luke).  Luke's account is the most comprehensive

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

Theophilus means "one who loves God."  So while it was likely a person Luke knew in real life, his gospel is also written to those through the ages who love God.

4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

The purpose of Luke's gospel...so we know the certainty of Jesus' ministry.
