Inspiring Example

of another Mary (April was the month of Marys as it ends up).  This Mary is known here and there through the gospels.

Matthew calls her "the other Mary"  [Mat 28:1 KJV] 1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first [day] of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mark calls her Mary, the mother of James and Joses  [Mat 27:56 KJV] 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

Luke groups her with "the women" [Luk 23:55 KJV] 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

John calls her the "wife of Clopas"  Clopas is the Hebrew name but he is also known as Alphaeus, brother to Joseph, making his wife sister in law to Mary, mother of Jesus, and therefore Jesus' aunt.  Whew! [Jhn 19:25 KJV] 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the [wife] of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

Clopas was one of the disciples on the road to Emmaus that encountered the risen Christ, his nephew and didn't recognize Him. [Luk 24:13-18 KJV] 13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about] threescore furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed [together] and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications [are] these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Another son of Clopas is mentioned in Scripture:  [Mar 2:14 KJV] 14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the [son] of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

So Mary, wife of Clopas, mother to Matthew, James and Joses, sister in law to Mary, mother of Jesus and Joseph, earthly father of Jesus, therefore aunt to Jesus, witness to His life and death and resurrection.  An important life and influence on the New Testament!
